TPU vs PET — the quiet difference

5 min · 28 April 2026

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is the cheap default. It's clear, it's hard, it's tough — and it's brittle on a curved case. Within six months on a Gulf wrist, the corners lift and the film discolours where the case oils have soaked in.

TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is what automotive paint-protection film is made from. It self-heals under body heat, conforms to curved surfaces, and survives 24 months of daily wear without yellowing.

We use TPU exclusively. It costs us four times more per square metre. It is the difference between selling you one kit and selling you a kit every six months.
